TESTIMONIALS FROM CLIENTS

Thanks for your call Friday with the repair estimate on the C&C 33 Beamer.  I appreciate the seller's willingness to shave $5k off our agreed to purchase price of US$41,450. Wherein this seems a reasonable compromise to allow us to proceed with a deal,  Ira Jones, the surveyor who returned to the boat Oct 27th to provide a further assessment, has unfortunately  uncovered additional problems which are of a substantial nature.

Ira has raised concern that the deck is water-saturated in at least two regions (see his photos #s  71, 84  attached). One of these areas is associated with substantial water penetration into the bathroom area of the  vessel  (see photo #  79).  Repair of the balsa core around these areas is labor-intensive and costly. As disturbing is the fact that one of the main cabin windows is leaking water into the living space above the cushion area  (see photo #  88).  Proper repair here requires complete removal and resealing of the window.  Thus ,  there exist not unsubstantial  issues  with the vessel north of the waterline, above and beyond  some more minor items including  replacing the propellor shaft stuffing box  and fuel tank sender unit.

An additional concern I have is that the Gimli repair service here in Manitoba feels,  on the basis of Ira's extensive photo images they have to work with,  that the hull may require a complete gelcoat replacement, possibly resulting in loss of a season of use,  as the hull would need to be completely dried of moisture before the gelcoat can be replaced. Their quotation for this extensive repair is well above the dollar value you cited yesterday for the hull portion of the restorative work, particularly when there is evidence of an earlier repair job on the starboard side of the hull flanking the keel (see photo # 67), as well as stress damage under the floorboards in the bow (see photo # 78).

My last point is that I was advised by the surveyor not to go forward with the purchase due to the myriad issues existing with the boat.  I on the otherhand believe that this vessel has potential with many strong design attributes (including being built in this country!!).  It is unfortunate to have had all these matters arise when a deal appeared to have been reached.  However, I do need a boat that is safe for my three kids on a rough piece of water up here in the frozen north.

Accordingly,  given the additional above waterline repairs and the potential downside of a complete gelcoat replacement and dryout, I propose we reduce our originally agreed to price of $41,450  by $10k.  I can have the balance of the funds to you within the next 3 days and have the vessel transported out of Sodus within a week.

Thanks for your consideration.  The closing date on the tentative offer is Oct 31, so I hope you can persuade the seller to agree to my final position on this deal within the next couple of days. If not, I appreciate doing business with you and regret the problems that have arisen during this transaction.

I also very much respect your putting me in touch with Ira who has done a highly professional sleuthing job!!

Sincerely,

Peter
